Well, I guess it is finally happening and the dogs are getting old. Rudi is 13 1/2. He is a black and tan doberman and Allie's best friend.
His hips have been bothering him and he's been having a little trouble keeping his balance and slid down the stairs Thrusday night. So we went to the vet yesterday and sure enough, he was pronounced a "senior dog". Complete with cataracts, loss of hearing, hip pain and tumors (the "glue" thaat holds him together , the vet said
Not to mention his too-long toenails which were impeding his ability to walk and trot. So the nails got cut (ouch) and now he is on Metacam and Cosequin.
Good grief! Whaat do you guys pay for the above in your part of the country? The Metacam was $125.00 for a 45 day supply and the cosequin was $90.00 for the small bottle.
I am going to make my own Cosequin using glucossamine and chrondroitin from my friend, but my qusetion is - how do you tactfully tell your vet you want a prescription so that you can buy the Metacam cheaper on-line?
Please send healing thoughts to Rudi. Mentally, he is a young dog and is still so game...when he can hear you, he really wants to GO!
