Okay, to understand my absolute JOY at this moment you have to know Austin's background. I can't touch his feet. Just reaching down past his "knee" sends him into a panic. And I mean panic, he gets whale eye, starts panting, eyes dialate, whining, "I'll chew my own leg off to get away" panic. He is 8 years old, and over the last 8 years I've cajoled, wrestled, tricked, and manhandled him into getting his nails done. They are waaaaaay longer than they should be because of the fight I need to put up to get them done. I have a hard time taking him someplace to do it because he has clear nails, it SHOULDN"T be such a chore! He actually got so worked up one time he expressed his anal glands all over both of us. That was a lesson learned!!
They were so bad recently his toes were being pushed to the side and the nails were starting to curl under. Okay, I go into combat mode, I prepare for battle. I decide to try putting him in the bathtub. THis works two ways, he's contained and it's slippery. Somewhere in the manuevering process he ends up with his head over the edge of the tub and under my arm. All of a sudden I was cutting toenails! He would jerk his foot once and awhile but a quiet talk from me and he held still. I kept praising him when he held still and "Nah nah" when he moved. I got all four feet done with hardly any stress to either of us! Apparently if he can't SEE me doing it he can handle the situation. And the best part? NO ANAL GLAND MESS! I'm soooooo happy right now.
