Most of these things I've attributed to allergic reactions, because that's what all of her vets have said. She's had most of these symptoms before.
She's having a problem with her back now though. The muscles there appear lumpy and almost swollen, the vet said she had back and abdominal pain but was unable to give me any indication as to why. Her right back leg seems to be affected by this, because it seems to be weakened. She isn't as agile as she should be and she's hesitant to climb in to my two door car.
I tried to stretch the leg the other day, and it seemed very stiff. After some stretching, it seems a bit stronger.
I took her to the emergency vet last month when the problem first occurred because I thought she was having an allergic reaction and I was worried something was pinching a nerve because the leg problem was very bad. Yet, the e-vet said she was perfectly healthy, and the only thing he could find wrong was that she had a strange heartbeat. He described it as being normal most of the time - and then having this one irregular pattern.
All of these vets that I've been do want to tell me that there's absolutely nothing seriously wrong with her (or that they wouldn't know without taking x-rays).
So I did some research and found out that a lot of her "allergy" -like symptoms are symptoms of hypothyroidism. Also included were symptoms of darkening skin pigmentation on the stomach, even hair loss on the back and sides, ear infection, and a connection between hypothyroidism and irregular heartbeats.
These few unusual symptoms seem to point to hypothyroidism, but I didn't see anything relating this condition to lower back or pain/abdominal pain which seems to be the catalyst of the problem.
Has anyone else had these problems with their RR? Has anyone here had an RR that had hypothyroidism?
I want to take her to the vet and have her tested, but so far the vets have been very unhelpful and very expensive. They all seem to disagree with each other, and I don't feel like they know what they're talking about.
