Ollie is about to turn 10 and while I am just now starting to consider him a 'senior', I have noticed that he's slowing down a bit (don't tell him that, though!) and is slightly stiff now and again. He recently hurt himself horsing around on the patio and 2 weeks later, he's still showing minor signs of weakness in his rear. We do think that's also because we didn't walk the dogs for those 2 weeks -- Lilly was in season and Ollie was hurt, so we just stayed home. Now that we're walking again, it seems to help.
Anyway, my question for all of you is what are you doing differently for your older dogs? Ollie and Finn have been getting glucosamine (1500 mg. liquid + a few 250 mg. tablets as treats) every day and we've tried to keep them walked at least every other day, but other than that, what is there? Feeding is the same -- raw, but with extra attention to plenty of organ and muscle meat. Ollie has a harder time maintaining his weight as an older dog, so him inadvertently getting fat isn't as big of a concern to me as keeping him healthy and mobile is.
