I want to start by thanking everyone who has taken the time to answer some of my past questions. They have been very helpful.
My pup Mutombo is 13 and a half weeks old (whelped jan 3) and he is already 30 pounds and healthy. I think he is doing well as far as training is concerned. I have not had a puppy in over ten years so I do not know how to gauge his progress, but he knows the following commands very well: sit, stay, down, come, and eyes. Of course his favorite command is "chow." When I feed him I put the bowl on the ground and make him stay until I say "chow."
I am currently working on teach him heel. I am not entirely sure how to go about doing this, and no one on the net seems to agree on the right way to go about heel.
I've just been walking him on a leash and correcting him with a little tug and saying "uh-oh."
Please let me know if this is correct or if anyone has suggestions.
Additionally I have been teaching him that if I say heel when I am not moving it means to come sit next to me. One lady who trains dogs said that I cannot have heel mean two things and by doing that I am confusing the dog. I always thought heel meant walk next to me and sit next to me (basically stick to my side).
Please let me know what ya'lls take on this is. AND if she is right, what is the name of the command for come and sit next to me?
What am I suppose to do about jumping? I know its in their DNA and I personally do not care, but I don't want a lawsuit 2 years down the road because my pup runs towards a stranger and jumps on them because he wants to play.
MEETING NEW PEOPLE
I'm delighted that I am having problems with him being TOO FRIENDLY as opposed to showing signs of aggression. My dog wants to meet everyone and he gets so excited that he starts jumping and doesn't obey commands. I want people to ignore him until he does a command but... I mean its hard to tell a passing stranger on the street that. Its not his fault because when people see a puppy they give him high energy and he is just feeding off of that. Either way, any input?
Thanks again for taking the time to look at the post.
