Thanks for helping me with my last question. I have had my pup for two weeks now. My question has to do with obedience. I know that obedience training is a long road, however what concerns me is whether the dog knows who is in charge.
I've trained him to sit and stay at doors after the third or fourth attempt. (sometimes he gives a try and then darts for the door and I do not let him in and then he wanders off and stops listening to "come" "sit" or "stay" -- is that challenging me? should i have a leash in order to enforce my commands? is he too young for that yet?) Is he not listening because he is a PUPPY or because he is challenging me? (he also has to sit and stay for the food bowl)
Outside in the backyard, he is always under my scrutiny, however he does not really listen to commands unless he wants something. Again, is he being a puppy or is he disrespecting me?
These are a few examples, but you get the gist of it. Is he being a young short attention spanned puppy? OR is he challenging me.
I try to follow the calm assertive alpha figure as much as possible except for when he is peeing on my carpet... then I run across the room and pick him up in a very frantic assertive manner.
Please let me know any other ways to show dominance in a non bullying manner.
