I've noticed a pattern with my last couple of dogs and was wondering whether anyone else has had the same experience. It's regarding the development of a dog's ability to communicate.
What I've seen is that from about 6 months to 3 years, my dogs have been able to understand basic commands - simple 1 or 2 words statements. Starting about 3 years they begin to figure out how to "talk" back to me using non-verbal communication. At about 4 years they start "talking" verbally using different sounds & intonation to tell me what they want. And finally at around 5 years they have moved beyond simple spoken commands to seemingly understanding full phrases.
I know - strange topic. Just curious as to other's experience.
