I used to frequent this board. I wanted to let those who remember us that Graham died suddenly last night from a cardiac episode. He had a normal day of lounging in bed, chasing rabbits out of our new yard, and even had dinner. He was his normal happy self. In the evening I took him and Bishop out to a friends house to visit and he was enthusiastic to be there. Around 8:15 pm Graham started to pant and I took him out for air and started to worry (it was not hot), a few minutes later he started moving slowly. I called the the vet and was directed to the emergency vet hospital. He stumbled to the car and when I arrived at the vet he could not get up and was taken inside on a stretcher. It was only ~9 pm. There were life saving efforts at the veterinary hospital, but we lost him ~10 pm. According the necropsy there were two things that were going on inside him: he had a malignant tumor growing on the right atrium of the heart and his mediasteinum was filled with blood. The vet said we never would have caught the tumor unless we had done an MRI or cat scan for some random reason, and then it would have been a life threatening operation with chemotherapy. He probably had no or little pain because his blood pressure dropped so quickly.
Graham was a great dog and I am totally heartbroken to have lost him. He was only six years old, but he had a good life and had many great adventures with me and his brother Bishop. Two of his favorite places were Las Cruces, NM and Flagstaff, AZ because of his favorite activities of sunbathing and hiking, but he really didn't care where he was as long as he was with me and Bishop. I had never seen two dogs so in sync and bonded as Graham and Bishop were and I know Bishop is going to have a hard time trying to figure out how to be a dog without Graham. I wish Graham eternal sunshine and butt rubs as he goes over the rainbow bridge. He was part of my family and I am a better person because of him, I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to have him my life.
