I have moved twice in the last 3 months. The first move was EXTREMELY stressful for me, and the dogs had a hard time adjusting, plus the fact, to put it bluntly, the house was a DUMP, but there was nothing else available at the time. The people had 12 poodles that lived there before me, and NEVER let those dogs outside, so you can imagine--it was DISGUSTING. We used bleach upon bleach to try to get everything as clean as possible before moving, but there were accidents. Plus, the yard was crap--just enough room to go out, do their thing and that's it. No one wanted to be out there. I was unhappy there, the dogs were unhappy there.
Last weekend I moved again. The house is really nice, all hardwood floors, never had dogs in before (cats though) and I was really excited to move. We fenced in the MASSIVE backyard right away and brought the hounds over before we started moving the big stuff (it was just across town) so they would be out of the way when we were moving stuff in and out. All have done exceptionally well this time. They love their backyard, they love the house. I haven't been crating the Ridgebacks and they have done well. I think most of the easy adjustment came from my attitude about the whole situation. It's been raining for the past 2 days, and the Ridgebacks even surprised me by going out willingly, so I can safely assume that they love their backyard...they even played out there for about 45 minutes in a steady drizzle!!
