I am very excited to be able to say that our foster, Boomer, who prompted my recent post on Fair Chances has found a home. Animal Humane had a three day adopt-a-thon, and late in the second day my wife was able to help get Boomer a family. I had "worked" the first 2/3 of the day w Boomer & regretfully did not get to meet his new family or to say good-by.
The environment at an adopt-a-thon is so difficult for big high energy dogs (though Boomer was on his best behavior and was absolutely perfect). So many smaller dogs & puppies to compete with.....so many "kissers" to compete with....so very hard for a dog like Boomer who makes you earn his trust. but then will reward you with his loyalty and affection once that trust is earned.
However, there is no question that the reason we were able to help find Boomer a home was simply that we knew him. We could tell everything about him to the prospective adopter. Not to mention, that Boomer was a dog who simply did not do well in a shelter environment & would have been very unruly without fostering.
I just can't say how thrilled I am to have helped to save a dog that was hours away being euthanised and has now been re-homed. Boomer now has his Fair Chance to fit in and have a permanent home. Every dog deserves the same.
