I also let mine have rawhide, but I follow the same rules Alyssa does. And no one is ever unsupervised with rawhide. EVER.
My breeder's husband hunts and her dogs LOVE the antlers and hooves they get during deer season--straight off the carcass.
When my dogs were teething, I would soak in dilute chicken broth and then freeze those big knotted rope toys. Neither one would chew on them plain, but once they're infused with a little eau de chicken, they go to town. And the freezing seems to make them a little more satisfying to teething puppies. I don't know if your adult would give a squat about whether or not they were frozen, but it might be a nice treat when it's hot out.
