I have had 2 foster dogs that have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. The first one had HUGE bald spots and very dark skin...the poor thing had a rat tail it was so bald. The shelter that she came from never even thought to check it. The second that was diagnosed had just a couple of small dark spots. The vet that had seen her was treating her for a dermatitis and had been for a few months. I suspected right away hypothyroidism so got her tested. Luckily she was diagnosed and started on replacement therapy before she developed bald spots.
