I have to agree with Alyssa. We were having the same exact problem with people coming to the door with our female 20 month old. I liked the territorial behavior, but was worried it would go to far. I worked with her first with no people, opening the door to "pretend people". I would have her in a sit/stay position. I then had some friends come over to practice. She is not perfect now, but she generally goes straight to her spot now when the doorbell rings. I would reward her with lots of treats and just going to say HI was a huge reward as she is very friendly. The barking stopped after the second or third time - she knew I was in charge by having her in the sit/stay.
