That's a great idea!
As for food stealing in the house.... We finally wised up and put dog-proof latches on most of our cupboard doors. Nelson still will open those cupboards having no locks, but I'm just learning to be more vigilant.
As for food on the dining table, etc... Everyone who comes in the house knows that they must expect to guard their food. "Dog Alert!!" is a common warning around here.
