Ceramic is fine. Plastic = bad. 
Warts are most often caused by an immature or developing immune system. It's not due to anything you did or didn't do. Time and patience will take care of it...but if you feel like they might get infected, you could use some grapefruitseed extract in the water bowl and diluted, to wash the warts with.
