So I took Selma to lure coursing practice this morning. Selma was definitely interested and watched the dogs chasing the lure before it was her turn. When it was actually her turn, we set up, the lure started, the operator said "tally ho!", i let selma go, and.... she just stood there. It was like she didn't know she was allowed to chase it. So, I started running after the lure, and after a couple of strides, she was off on her own.
The course went away from us at an angle first and then straightened and went further through the field. Then the course took a turn to the right, so that the start was back in the dogs' field of vision. As soon as she could see me again, Selma was off the lure and running back to momma.
We did a second run after everyone had taken a turn and she did the same thing, except the second time, she was a little more focused and running better before she aborted and came back to me. My breeder wasn't there, but another breeder who knows Selma's mom said that she ran exactly like her mom did. Oh well. The good news is, she had fun.
