Have any of you had experiences with your Ridgebacks reacting negatively toward the "hypoallergenic" dog breeds? Our 5 year old, Wrigley, is generally laid back with other dogs. Rarely on our walks he has growled or exhibited other unwelcoming behavior toward dogs that come up to him. The other night, he lunged agressively toward a happy go lucky wheaten terrier that was approaching him (both on leashes) with friendly posture and tail wagging. I was able to keep Wrigley back, but his strange reaction shook me. Today I saw a piece on the news that included Wheaten Terriers in a group of hypoallergenic dogs because they have hair and not fur. That made me wonder if dogs do not recognize these breeds as within their species and are threatened by them. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?
