My personal experience with cats in a car is that they will be on full alert and lose a few handfuls of hair, but they will be OK. I would be extremely surprised if the cats use the bathroom, eat, or drink. I'd just leave them be and get to your destination. They will hate it, but can settle down enough to make the trip. Cats are difficult in this respect, but they will begrudgingly adapt once life gets normal again
