What a great picture!
Ever watched "The Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic Channel? Your comment reminded me of an episode where Cesar is working with a Ridgeback at his Dog Psychology Center & says "there's no other dog here who can keep up with or match him. He's the fastest dog in the pack right now" - and the pack is made up of about 40 Pit Bulls, Shepherds, Rottweilers & miscellaneous breeds.
Has your friend tried swimming to get the Rotti mix to use his atrophied leg? I wonder if he'd use it if he had to dog paddle (with support from a human, of course)?
