Ollie hates harl danes, too. But he did have a bad experience wiht one on the trail many years ago. He likes Dals, so it's not just a spotty thing. 
Both my boys can't stand fluffy, prick-eared dogs, either. Too many husky/GSD/Akita/Chow problems at the dog park.
