I'm currently test-driving Petzlife Oral Care Gel on Finn and Ollie -- who both have a little bit of crud on some of their teeth (not bad for 6 and almost 8 year olds; I've seen some dogs under a year with worse teeth than theirs!
). I'm also trying it on the cats, since I do NOT want to put them under to get their teeth done again -- they are 10 years old and the last time they were anesthetized for a dental, Pretzel came back with a nasty eye infection and Matisse hid from us for days and limped a bit. I think they were too rough with him, personally.
They don't like the taste of it very much, but I like the all-natural ingredients and the product has had good testimonials on some of the other lists I'm on. I've only used it a week, though, so it'll be a few more weeks before I can report on how well it's done as a "no brush" solution.
Other than this little venture, we feed raw, so there's not much of a need for special "bone" things to chew. Their gums are healthy and have no inflammation, even with the small amount of tartar on them. Of the dogs I know whose owners brush their teeth regularly, though, their teeth are really nice looking.
