You might look for a teacup poodle or a cockapoo (cockapoos are really cool. A really small RT is about 10 lbs or so. We have a small one and he weighs about 15 lbs. But he is only about 12" from top of shoulder to floor. They seemed to be kind of packed for their size. So just know that you can get a small Rat, but they weigh more than 5 lbs. Check the rescue sites. and keep up with them. I have been looking for another rat terrier and I missed some pups by just a matter of days.
I got really sick a few years ago and that is what prompted us getting our rat instead of a larger dog. So I know where you are comming from. He is a great dog. he is a real cuddler and when I don't feel good he is just what I need.
