Here is a preview of the new Altered Titles offered by UKC as of January 1, 2010. Additional and final details will be forthcoming in the December issue of BLOOLINES Dog Events News and on this website.
Licensed Altered classes consists of purebred dogs six months of age or older that have been spayed or neutered. The purpose of these classes is to enable owners of spayed and neutered dogs to get an evaluation of their dog’s conformation and to enable breeders to see a wider range of dogs resulting from the breeding programs.
• Licensed Altered Conformation classes will be offered at the option of the hosting club.
• Altered classes will be licensed classes and eligible to earn Altered Championship titles.
• Licensed Regular Conformation class winners and Licensed Altered Conformation class winners will not compete against one another.
• Licensed Altered classes will follow the Licensed Regular Breed classes.
• Altered dogs will be judged against the same breed standard as the Regular classes.
• Non-Licensed Altered classes: Altered Groups, Altered Best In Multi-Breed Show (Altered Reserve Best In Multi-Breed Show) and Altered Best In Show (Altered Reserve Best In Show) maybe offered at the discretion of the hosting club.
• Altered titles will be stand alone titles and separate from the Regular titles. Equivalent titles from the UKC Regular classes, other organizations, or points/legs towards UKC Regular titles of UKC Champion or Grand Champion must not be substituted for UKC Altered Champion and Altered Grand Champion title.
• Altered point schedule. To earn an Altered Champion and Altered Grand Champion, follows the same format as the Regular class point schedule.
• Licensed Altered Conformation will not be eligible for Total Dog Awards.

I think this is exciting. There are some real lovely dogs that just don't find show homes willing to keep them intact. It would be great to see some of them out there competing and giving cred to their breeders, sires & dams!
