My cats have made it to 15 years old because they stay out of the path of coyotes, racoons, skunks, etc. I give them a place where they can be safe (the barn and the house) but they also have learned to trust dogs. I have had dogs that love their own cats and I have had dogs that love to kill cats. I don't want to introduce a dog that loves to kill cats, my cats are high value and I love them. It's like some dogs like to bite people. I like that in a dog and prefer it to one that is friendly to anyone. One of the best dogs I've ever had had his own cat but would take your arm off if you touched the pickup. His name was Deputy Dog and he was the best, an Aus cattle dog cross. He was hell on cows too, but he loved his cat.
