Not sure where i heard this from, but I think cat poo has lots of fiber or undigested protein and that's what causes our ratties to chew on them. I ended up buying a litterbox that my cat can jump in from the top. The rattie hasn't gotten in there ever since! Bought it at a Petco for ~$30.
