1967 Olds Cut. Supreme missing engine codes
Posted by Kevin on October 9, 2015, 7:51 am
Hello, I have a 1967 Olds cutlass supreme convertible and recently decided to have the engine rebuilt. I handed my car over to a mechanic who pulled the motor and sent it to a local machinist. I was not sure exactly what the spec were on the motor that I had, so a few weeks later I called to get the block and engine unit number so that I could identify it. I was give the block number but was told that after cleaning the engine the machinist and the mechanic could not find any numbers anywhere on the engine.
I was told that the compression was 8.3:1 and the motor was 250hp with a 4bbl carb. After doing research, I found that motor is a low compression export engine? Is that correct and how did it stay in the USA.
Also, was it common for engines to be missing numbers or should I be suspicious of the repairs?
