Had the same problem... Hard start when hot... MY problem diagnosis was lack of fuel to carb... replaced rubber lines, added check valve... finally had to replace the fuel pump. Problem solved!!!! Check for fuel when hot before other problems.
Also found timing was way advanced and when set back closer to specs... hard starting/slow turnover cured.
Good luck

: More than likely it's the starter. Timming
: could also cause this problem, but the way
: you described, odds are on the starter.
:
: I agree that it's the starter. I had the
: same problem just a few years ago. When
: replacing the starter be sure to put in a
: heat sheild to protect your new investment.
: There are a few different types out there
: for not a lot of money.

: I have a 67 cutlass with a early 70's 455 in
: it.
: It has run for years no problem. Now wjen I
: drive it for a little while I'll get out and
: when I get back in it won't start. Seems
: real weak. If I let it sit for a long while
: it will start right back up. Is something
: getting hot and causing it to shutdown? What
: could it be?
