I'm reinstalling my 67's dash and wiring harness.
I had all the guages rebuilt, including the tic-toc-tach, so I don't want to screw up anything.
The tach wire way up the harness where the in-line fuse is located was faulty, so I repaired it properly.
The other end of the tach wire (by the fuse block) was just hanging loose. This I can understand since evidently it was shorted up in the area I repaired and someone had just snipped it to prevent a 442 inferno. After all, we want the tires lit up, not the wiring harness!
Well, getting down to business--
I can't figure out how to hook it back up. I've checked Mitchell's and Chilton's manuals to no avail.
It doesn't look like the loose end went into the harness block, since I see no snipped wire on the block or an open pin.
I would think it would just go to the negative side of the coil, BUT...I know some factory tach app's used a resistor between the coil and the tach.
So, to sum up my confusion: 1)Here's this loose tach wire with no apparent connection to the fuse block or a resistor. 2)I see no tie-in to the under hood harness. 3) Did this just go thru a firewall grommet to the coil? 4) After spending the equivilant of my post-Obama 401(k) getting this tach rebuilt, I don't want to blow it up.
Anybody............help!
On second thought, not "anybody"... experts only!
