Well, I tried a new starter without any luck. I also checked timing and still no luck. I think just from sitting for so long it is kind of still froze up. It has 148,000 miles on it so probably time for a rebuild anyway. I see a lot of websites selling a rebuilt 330 for about $1,000 plus core charge and shipping so about $1,300 for a rebuilt delivered engine. The problem is it says it is from a 1965, would it still work in my 1967? My 1967 also has a 4 barrel carb, would that work or would that need to be replaced? Are there any other locations for a rebuild to purchase? I am mechanically inclined but have not worked on cars much so I was thinking a crate engine would be best bet.

: thanks for everyones help. I will check the
: starter first. If that isn't it then maybe
: the timing.

: Thanks

: If the starter is good, that slow turn is
: sign
: of timing being too far advanced. May not
: make a lot of sense, but I've run into it
: countless times. Back off the timing a bit
: and try again.
: BTW, on Olds engines, you don't need a
: distributor wrench, just use a 3/8"
: drive socket wrench with a short and a long
: extension and it will have enough play to
: make up for the angle and will work just
: fine!

: I recently acquire a 67 cutlass with a 330
: that has been sitting for almost 20 years.
: Before attempting to start I replaced oil,
: oil filter, belts, hoses, flushed radiator
: and put in new antifreeze, new thermostat,
: new HEI distributor with new plugs and
: wires, new Edelbrock 1406 carb. (old one was
: bad). I also put marvels mystery oil in the
: cylinders. After a tough time of even
: getting in to turn over we finally were able
: to but it goes very slowly like the battery
: is dead. The battery is a new one and not
: dead so that is not issue. With plugs
: removed it spins a little easier but not too
: freely. With plugs in it has a tough time
: turning over and won't quite start. I do
: have spark as we checked the plugs. I was
: planning on a rebuild anyway but was hoping
: we could at least get it started. Any help
: or tips would be great.
