Kurt, thanks for the info. I guess the engines were built at the engine plant and stamped there before being shipped to the assembly plant, correct? That would explain a higher or lower production number on the engine vs. the VIN.

: I don't know the exact weeks of the beginnig
: and end, but the beginning is probably in
: early Sept 1966, and the end late July 1967.
: You VIN number puzzle is because I'm sure
: that the two cars are not the same model
: from the same plant. Like one is a Sports
: Coupe and the other a Holiday Coupe? Your
: 06A car, if a '67 model was definitely built
: in June '67.
: There is no relationship between the engine
: unit number and the VIN.
: There were 24,833 442s produced in '67, so
: the last engine unit number (started with
: V200001G) would be close to V224833. The
: VIV would be the sequential number for the
: *model* which in (in '67) including 442 and
: non-442 optioned cars of that model.
: Yes there *is* a general relationship
: between the engine unit and when in the year
: it was made. Same with the VIN. Meaning
: that a car made late in the year will have a
: higher unit number than one made earlier in
: the year, of course.

: I know some of you (like Chris Whitt and
: MANY
: others more knowledgable than I) know the
: answers to these questions, so lay it on me!
: What month and week did the '67 model year
: production start and what month and week did
: it end???????
: I'm looking at a couple of cars. Both are
: 5VY cars. One shows a build date of the 4th
: week of October (I assumed that's 1966),
: another one has a build date of the 1st week
: of June, I thought '67.
: The VIN on the 10D car ends in 60538.
: The 06A car's VIN ends in 18826.
: So, now I'm thinking the 06A car was built
: in '66. Is that right?.
: Both are E Block 400's.
: The engine ID # on the head of the 10D car
: is about 450 higher than the VIN.
: The 06A engine ID # is around 5000 higher
: than the VIN # on the body.
: Was it normal to have such a discrepancy
: between the VIN and the engine serial
: number? Is there an acceptable range for the
: engine ID and VIN to be in? Does this
: indicate a replaced head or engine?
: And again, when did the production year
: begin and end?
: Many thanks!
