As a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down. (2 Kings 21,
v13) This is what God said he was going to do with Jerusalem. Well, in the
past few days we have seen it happen in the Caribbean. Irma has been a
Hurricane passing through the islands, moving forward slowly, but when it
comes it is with a vengeance. Winds up to 185 mph. along with surges of
water from the sea.
Our friends in its path were braced for the worst. In Antigua the sisters
had left their batch and come to stay with the Bristol family. Fortunately the
eye of the storm moved a bit to one side and so Antigua, St Kitts and Nevis
didn't suffer as much as expected. There was property damage but not nearly as bad as what was feared.
St Maarten, however, is a different story. The island is just devastated,
just like a man wiping a dish. There are five friends on St Maarten and
now four of them have been accounted for. One man and wife have have lost
their house. The damage all over the island is extreme and even the airport
and sea port are in ruins. The man who is not accounted for is Hubert.
The Sunday morning meeting has been in his home and the downstairs part of
his house was where the workers batched. We hope for good news of him.
There is one friend on the British Virgin islands, an older lady. No news of
And on the island of Turks there is a contact who is from the Philippines.
We have also heard nothing of him.
