2 "the hold ministry have over their dumb bound followers is awfully closer to a cult than a sect."
There are two definitions of the English word "cult."
The most common meaning of the word relies of its sociological definition. The second definition is far more technical and far more accurate - that being any religious group that claims to be Christian while rejecting some or all of the tenets that constitute Christianity since Jesus Christ walked physically on this planet -- most importantly the identity of God as revealed in God's word by God Himself - as Father Son and Holy Spirit.
2x2ism is a "cult" by both definitions, but most prominently by the rejection of the identity of God revealed by God. One needs to look no further than the following quotation of worker Joe Lewis while being confronted with that vewry question - below:
A lady confronted these preachers regarding the identity of Jesus Christ after this first "Lecture" was finished:
¥ Joe Lewis - "We don't believe that Jesus is God."
¥ The Lady - "'I and the Father are one.'" "manifested - it does say he was God manifested in the flesh."
¥ Joe Lewis - "Ya, and we believe that he still is today - in us too.
(Lynden Bible Lectures, 1996, tape 1, side B)
Just as David Koresh made himself the "manifestation" of Jesus Christ within his Branch Davidian cult, Joe Lewis made 2x2 clergy ("in us too") the manifestation of Jesus Christ.
