“They tell me the commanders want more and I’m telling them they’re wrecking everything that we are doing and it’s getting ten times worse and … and the more they threaten these people, the more they’ll lay down on the floor and they can run the tanks over them. I mean that, that becomes the attitude.”
Transcript Steve Schneider’s subsequent telephone conversation with his sister:
“We’re talking about the Bible and all the prophesies. Bu I know. Look it, when you get off the phone you look at the book of Nahum. That the chariots of flaming torches are tanks. That’s what Nahum saw in the final days, they’ve surrounded us. It’s the first time in the history of the United States that the government has used tanks against its own people, Sue.”
It is easy to see that the government’s military tactics use against a church that believes Bible prophesy of End Times is seen as CLEAR fulfillment of those Bible prophesies by the interpretations such religious people apply to current events..
In effect, the government was viewed as “Babylon” by Koresh’s interpretations. And in accord with Koresh’s belief that he was the “manifestation” of Jesus Christ (very similar to 2x2 workers self image), Koresh believed that it was HE who would cause the downfall of “Babylon” – not by military might, but rather by sacrificing himself (dying) . Another aspect of Koresh’s teachings seems to be that at the END, the Branch Dividian group would be instantly changed into a flame of fire that would move across the globe to purge the whole earth of evil.
All it would take for 2x2 clergy to become as dangerous to the lives of their followers would be for them in their dedication to Bible ignorance, to similarly approach Bible prophesies and interpret them as being fulfilled by current events they are about as ignorant of as they are regarding the Bible (they traditionally pay little or no attention to reports of current events, especially with regard to the Bible).
