But from the little I know from a general reading of Scripture, there is nothing that is left that needs to happen before the end could come today or tomorrow or in the next century.
What I have learned very well is how people are saved. And for those who are saved, the end will be the beginning of perfection that will never end.
There are currently two main ideas regarding the second coming in relation to God's church. One is called pre-trib and the other is called post-trib, and to me these are all-trib - just a great diversion of church attention away from the fact that those who are saved by God will still be saved when God rolls up this universe like a scroll and makes a new heaven and new earth that will never end.
In my life as a Christian I have spoken to many Christians and in the last four decades many non-Christians, who were (are) worried to distraction regarding the end times and what they see evil doing in our times. And I have found it far more productive to draw their attention to how to be saved regardless of what is going on around us - we all know it is not and will not be getting better even for the saved until it is ended. My hope is that Jesus returns today, while I at the same time would not ask God to end it today unless the last person to be ever saved has been born and saved first.
