Dear Christians, Wake Up!
(In memory of June Douglas)
Read the following and search your heart whether or not you fall into this scene:
Heb 13:17
17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
NKJV
James 1:2-8
2 Profiting from Trials
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
NKJV
If you are filled with the Spirit of truth, or just possess that ‘desire’ to know the truth, (Truth being a baptized Christian who knows the will of the Lord) then the above verses would encourage you to continue on even though you are facing adversities, trials, doubts. You would feel safe turning to your elders for help.
But what if you are a cult youth (Mormon, The Way, 2X2’s etc.) going 2X2 door to door trying to fulfill your 2 year service to the church, and you and your partner just visited another Christian family (Non-cultic Christians are still considered Christians, they just haven’t been introduced to the cult books of the ‘whole truth’) who have invited you into their home, kindly offered you some refreshments and showed you things from the Bible that contradicted just about everything that you do and believe in your cult?
You, as many today do, would be thrown into confusion and doubt. What help would your church give?
The Elders and Prophets of your cult would encourage you to read the above verses, that you may regain your strength and pride in the church. They would lovingly point out: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”
But you would answer them: “But this Christian showed me straight from scripture that I was wrong in believing in our prophets, I read it myself. He also showed me that we have to go by the Bible as a foundational truth, and not by what we think the spirit tells us. It all made perfect sense when he showed it to me. I am so confused now. I feel as if I am doing wrong by going door to door preaching our doctrine. What do I do?”
The Cult Elders would tell you to read the rest of the above verses: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God
“But” you would continue; “I did ask God and now I’m even more confused.”
They will tell you: “ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”
And they would make you understand that it is your lack of ‘faith’ that drives you to confusion. “Paul teaches us to believe”, they will continue, “and because you have doubts” ; “let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
“But that’s my problem.” You would tell them, “This Christian made me doubt, and now I don’t know where to turn? He said you guys have pulled wool over my eyes and are leading me straight to hell!”
With a peaceful and a serene look, showing great concern for your confusion they will pour out their hearts to you; “Do you think we want you to go to hell? You are our dear and loved brother. Your mom and dad, your brothers and sisters are all here praying for you. As we said, you must follow the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who, through Paul has instructed to; “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account.”
“So dear brother in Christ,” They would tell you; “let US take that burden from your shoulders for ‘we watch for your soul’ and it is US that will give account on that last day, so you just follow the scriptures and obey the spirit. Don’t concentrate on what that Christian man said to you, put it out of your head because you know that it is written; a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
Now back to all those that seek the truth, the Lord has instructed us that; Matt 9:16-17
16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved." NKJV
So we must take off that old garment and put on a new one, meaning that we must take off that old false teachings and clothe ourselves with the truth that comes from the Bible as a whole, not twisted and tweaked to fit someone’s perverted agenda.
We cannot put ‘new wine’ into our old wineskins, meaning that we can’t fill our hearts that still has all those false teachings, those lies and twisted half-truths, (resembling an old wineskin) with the powerful Words of unaltered truth, or else our heart will break and; “the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.”
2 Peter 2:18-22
18 Deceptions of False Teachers
For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."
NKJV
We must leave the ‘old’ and start fresh with a ‘New’ fertile heart that will allow the ‘Seed of Truth’ to spread its roots deep which will produce ‘good fruit’ in its proper season.
Don’t wait until the harvest, wheat will remain wheat and so does a tare remain a tare. Don’t try to bear ‘good fruit’ from a bad tree, it is NOT possible. Let the Lord plant a good seed, and even if the time is short and you would die before you can bear any fruit, the ‘good seed’ will remain a good seed in your heart and as Jesus said to the thief on the cross; "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." Luke 23:43NKJV
