My son is almost 2 1/2 yrs and still has a gtube. He gags on any type of solid food and then throws up whatever is in his tummy whenever we try them. He is up to 2 oz of pediasure at every meal, and will do some smooth foods, but other then that he is tubed. I do not regret my decision for the gtube, however, if i knew my son was doing fine with the ng tube and making slow gains, I would've left it. But he was not. The gtube also allowed him to get through the jaw distraction surgery where he was in a medically induced coma for a week. So as you can see, gtube is for longer term use, which is unfortunate but has helped my son in so many ways. Weaning is just very tough with it.
He stil throws up often (everyday). He's gone through spurts since he was born. Like it would be once a week for a while, then only at night, every night for a week, then every single day-sometimes twice a day. It finally stopped completely when he turned 1 year for 6 months, but then came back at 18 months. Whether it's from gagging on food, or too much volume with liquid or coughing at night that it happens then too. So I know how frustrating it is. I've talked to ENT, GI & the rest of the specialists & and it doesn't seem like anyone has any answer still.
I'm sorry I really have nothing to say that can help, I just wanted to let you know we are still having issues and you are not alone
: My 4 month old son has been spitting up up to
: half of his feedings at each tube feeding

: to do partial feeds, but now that as well he
: is not taking. It has now got to the point
: that he chokes on the nipple and then throws
: up. I have tried different formulas in
: hopes that the food would stay down. (I use
: to just use breast milk.) I found a lactose
: free formula that seems to be staying down!
: Thank God!! He has had this tube since
: birth and I wonder if anyone would recomend
: getting a g tube instead? Does anyone have
