With my daughter's first surgery (she was 1) we used the restraints. We would take them off when we were able to keep a close eye on her though.
She didn't really put things in her mouth either.
But with the 2nd surgery (she was 3) we didn't use them except for at night, and that was my decision because I didn't want her to mess up anything in her sleep.
Hope all goes well!

: Hi, I have a question for those of you whose
: children have had their palates repaired. My
: son will be getting his fixed in the next
: month and I wanted to know how many people's
: surgeons required their children to wear
: "no-no's" ie hand
: splint/restraints after their recover so
: they would not put any fingers or other
: objects in their mouths. My sons surgeon
: said its not necessary anymore to restrain
: them while his feeind specialist says it is
: necessary so they do not ruin the repair.
: Just checking to see what other doctors have
: had you do after the repair. Thanks!
