My son had low muscle tone in his legs and torso. He had therapy until he was 10 months old. I would call your insurance company just to double check that it's not covered since I haven't heard of anyone else having problems. Or you could get therapy through Early Intervention or Birth to Three, which doesn't go through your insurance. Let me know if you have any questions on this!

: Thank you everyone for your responses &
: experiences in this matter its greatly
: appreciated. I have one other question to
: those who have used OT& PT, did your
: insurance company pay for this? I just got
: word from the OT that I went to have him
: evaluated with said my insurance will not
: cover this, only short term therapy. And
: being that he is only a baby they do not
: know how long he will need therapy. Anyone
: else have this problem?

: My daughter had very low tone in her neck
: and
: upper torso. She could not hold her head up
: until she was about 10 months old. However,
: she is doing great now and completely caught
: up at 22 months (crawling, walking,
: climbing, running, dancing). You would
: never know she had such a rough start. We
: had physical therapy and occupational
: therapy in the NICU and at home for about
: 1.5 years. My daughter was discharged from
: both P.T. and O.T. at the beginning of this
: year. Hang in there and get any help you
: can. It really pays off.

: Hi, my daughter also had low muscle tones.
: She
: was in Early Intervention and had PT until
: she was 2. She's doing fantastic now and
: you'd never be able to tell. She was very
: low tone in her upper torso and neck, her
: legs were extremely sturdy.

: Thanks Katie for the reply. Where was the
: muscle tone issue in your son & how long
: has he been doing therapy? Thanks..

: We've had the same problem and I've seen
: that
: many other parents here have said the same.
: To my understanding, it's typical of PRS
: kids. My son's was pretty bad for a while
: (maybe 40% delay). He is 19 months now, and
: has had physical therapy since he was born.
: He is doing much better and at his last
: review he was rated at 0% delay! Early
: intervention in key, the therapists are
: awesome. Sounds like you are doing all the
: right things! Good luck!

: hi,i was checking to see if anyone's child
: with pierre robin has any low muscle tone
: issues. my son is 5wks old & has a mild
: case of pierre robin & when he was
: having a follow up visit with his feeding
: specialist she noticed that he had a
: slightly low muscle tone in his neck and
: torso. he is able to move his head side to
: side and lift it up when lying on his
: stomach, but his neck tends to flop forward
: if not supported and his neck has to be
: supported to be held up. he just started
: going to physical therapy to help strengthen
: him up, i am just hoping that there is not
: some other underlying problem. i had an
: amnio,FISH test,cgh array,fragile x &
: sma tests done while i was pregnant &
: all came back negative. has anyone else's
: child has this issue with the muscle tone?
: thanks...
