Hi Sarah! My son also hated baby food. Our surgeon said we could go back to crunchy food by the 3rd week. In the meantime, he said there was no reason he needed to eat babyfood. He said we could give him hotdogs, pancakes, bread, pasta, etc just as long as it wasn't crunchy. I was really paranoid about a hole developing so I ended up throwing everything in the blender anyways. I found a bunch of recipes for blended food which my picky eater just loved. Let me know if you want them. I agree, the palate repair for some reason was the hardest surgery for me to handle as well!

: holly,
: the fistula is about the size of the tip of
: your pinky finger. What size was your
: daughters? How did feedings go after surgery
: for you guys. We are having a difficult time
: due to the fact that she HATES pureed foods.
: She never even ate baby food and now that's
: just about all ahe can have. At what point
: did you start back with regular foods. And
: believe me, any info you have does make me
: feel better!!! I've handled the whole PRS
: really well and every other surgery went so
: well, but for some reason this one seems so
: much more difficult. Thanks for listening to
: me ramble. It's theraputic to hear others
: stories! Thanks,
: Sarah

: I am sorry to hear this Sarah!! Fistulas
: after palate repair can happen. Our plastic
: surgeon said that even with the most perfect
: repair/situation that one in four will
: develop a fistula of some sort and that most
: will heal. How big is the hole?? I know that
: my daughter had a small hole develop in hers
: about 10 days out and that healed over by
: itself. The repair itself falling apart I
: think would be rare. My surgeon said you
: have to give it at least six to eight weeks
: to fully heal. At five days out, it should
: be scabbing over and maybe some superficial
: sutures coming out. I know none of this
: probably makes you feel better, but hang in
: there.

: My name is Sarah and I have a 14 month old
: little girl with PRS. She had her palate
: repaired 1 week ago and 5 days post-op, I
: noticed that she had a rupture in her soft
: palate. We took her to the hospital and I
: was told that she needed to see her plastic
: surgoen and let him decide what the next
: step was. She wasn't in any pain or bleeding
: from the hole, but I was completely freaking
: out. We went the next day to see her Dr. He
: told me that 90% of these holes will repair
: themselves. But, of course, there is a
: possiblity of having to have another surgery
: to repair the hole if necessary. I knew
: that there was a possiblity of fistules
: (sp?) later on down the road, but I never
: imagined that I would be dealing with a
: rupture 5 days out. Naive, I know!! What I'm
: wondering is if anyone has heard of these
: holes repairing themselves. Any info that
: anyone may have is greatly appreciated.
: Thanks!
