My name is sarah and I have a 14 month old little girl with PRS. On feb 19th she had her palate repaired and on wednesday night, part of her soft palate ruptured. she wasn't in any pain or bleeding, but I completely freaked out. We took her to the hospital and they said that there was nothing they could do at that point. She needed to see her plastic surgeon and let him decide, which we did see him the next day. I was told that 90% of the time, these holes will close on their own. I guess I never thought that this would happen. At least not right from the get go. I knew that they was a possiblity of fistules (sp?) later on. So, what I'm getting at is this... does anyone know of this sort of situation where the holes repair on their own? I'm terribly sorry if I have rambled, but I am having a hard time finding any answers. Any info that anyone may have is most appreciated. Thank you!

: After the first surgery the palate came
: apart in the middle, think its called a
: fistula. So she had to have another surgery
: to close the fistula.

: Can I ask why your daughter needed a second
: surgery? My daughter had her repair in April
: of 09 and just this week we have noticed
: liquids coming from her nose. I'm going to
: call plastics this week, until then I wanted
: to see if this was a sign of a problem?

: With my daughters' first palate surgery she
: stayed overnight in hospital (she had a
: trach and g-tube, so no breathing or eating
: issues). She was pretty out of it that
: night, then better when we went home. She
: didn't even mind the restraints.
:
: Her second surgery she stayed 2 nights and
: done great. She only drank and ate sherbert
: while she was in the hospital. Ate soft
: pureed things for about 2 weeks or so. Only
: used the restraints at night because she was
: 3 then and didnt stick things in her mouth.
:
: Email me if you have any more questions.
: Hope this helps and I will be praying for
: you both.

: My 21month old daughter has prs and is
: scheduled for her soft cleft palate repair
: in 2 weeks. If anyone has any suggestions,
: tips advice or experiences that would be of
: any help, just to give me an idea of what we
: are in for and how long the hospital stay
: is. We have weaned the pacifer and I know
: she will not be allowed any solid food and
: will be wearing arm splints, we are leaving
: her g-tube in until after the surgery even
: though she has been drinking thick liquids
: now for 4 months. I am just very nervous,
: she had severe sleep apnea until she had her
: adenoids removed in Sept. then moderate
: sleep apnea in November and was cleared for
: the surgery by her pulmonologist, although
: her plastic surgeon wanted to wait a few
: more months to let her grow. Any advice
: would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
