For Ashley they performed a Car Seat Challenge in the nicu, where they placed her in our regular car seat and monitored her heart and respiration rates and her O2 sats. The results were that she sustained decreased heart rate in the elevated position, as well as her tongue falling toward the back of her throat, ubstructing her airway. They determined she required a car bed which allows the baby to lie on side or tummy, thus protecting their airway. Are your little ones home? If so they must not have thought these were issues with your daughter, otherwise I'd assume they'd do a similar test. If she's at home is she using an apnea monitor? Has she had any decreased heart or resp rates? If so you could inquire with her pediatrician.
