I just saw your post, and thought I would tell you that my daughter is the same age, and the same situation. She does not have any tubes or trach. She does everything as any toddler would, except for the speech. We are in speech therapy two times a month. She does a lot of grunting and pointing and signs, but just doesn't use speech. She just had palate repair in September so I attributed the delay to that. Who knows, I guess I will just be patient for a while longer!

: Hey guys...its been a while since i posted a
: question on here. My Kate is now 18months
: old and doing really well. She is
: walking/playing/ feeding herself and
: generally a typical little toddler. Chunky
: monkey weighs in at 29lbs and is off the
: charts for her height(wonder where she could
: have gotten that one with her mommy being
: 6ft!!). She now has 16teeth and are a
: little crowded, but not bad. Her jaw has
: grown out nicely although she still has a
: pretty significant overjet per the dentist.
: My question now is about speech. Kate had
: about 9 "words" at 14months.
: Since she started walking about two months
: ago, she has really slacked off on her
: speech. She doesn't use any of her words
: anymore. We are going to get a speech
: consult tomorrow, but i am still really
: worried about it. She is appropriate
: otherwise, and i see no signs of autism or
: anything like that. I just can't understand
: what happened in the speech department. She
: babbles all day and points to things she
: wants, but no words. How old were your guys
: when they started talking?? Did any of you
: have a similar experience?? What helped your
: little ones start talking?? Thanks guys...
: Holly and Kate
