Hey Jennifer...i bet you are getting anxious about this upcoming surgery. My daughter Kate had her palate repair at 11.5 months old. It went a lot better then i expected and she recovered pretty quickly. It should be a lot easier than his last surgery. I don't have any suggestions about the thumb sucking thing. That would be pretty hard to break. My daughter had a pacifier still at surgery time, but our surgeon does not have any bottle/pacie restrictions, so luckily we didn't have to go through that. Kate used her haberman for two weeks after surgery, and then we switched her to a sippy cup. We had great success with the nuby sippy cup. It is sold most places, but we got ours at walmart. It is the one that is individually shrink wrapped.. not sold as a package or anything. It does not have a valve but is spill proof. It does not require much suction at all and can be used by just biting/mouthing the spout. He might have some luch with it now if you want to go ahead and introduce it. I just stuck to this cup. Those sippy cups with valves require a lot of suction and some are hard for even an adult to get any liquid out!! Anyways...good luck on your upcoming surgery...you and your son will be in our prayers!
