wow. I am impressed. Kuddos to you for putting up with those things so long! Especially to have an older baby with them. We were lucky to only have them on for 2 months and our son was pretty stationary (4 months old). So yea, I don't know how you did it.....
Honestly, The scarring is not as terrible as you may think. At first the are pretty red, then purple, then white. I'm not sure if my son's very very fair complexion has anything to do with it but I can hardly see them. We did use mederma on them for some time, but not as often as they say to use. Also, sunscreen will be your best friend. I am an esthetician, so of course I'd say that, but really, the sun can make them worse!
It has been almost 9 months since they have been removed. We are very happy with the results. If you'd like to see any pics of when they were first off to now, I'd be happy to share! Please let me know/e-mail me. Good luck! I'm sure you can't wait

: On November 2 my daughter is scheduled to get
: her jaw distractors removed! We are
: ecstatic to say the least. What we thought
: would take about 2 months has taken nearly 5
: months, so we are really ready to be done
: with the jaw distraction--and hopefully get
: rid of the trach soon too. Anyway, I'm
: wondering how noticeable the facial scars
: are (for those of you with kids who have
: gone through this procedure). Do they ever
: revise these facial scars, or are they
: pretty minimal? Also, any tips on what to
: expect after this surgery are also much
: appreciated.
