Hey there Candice...congrats on being able to breastfeed your little baby and that he is doing so well!! I was sooo heartbroken over not being able to breastfeed my little one. How is your son doing with weight gain?? If he is gaining weight normally and still nursing frequently, there may be a reason. The discomfort could be related to an "off" latch related to his smaller jaw. My first baby did not have prs but did have a small lower jaw and i had a lot of discomfort at first trying to get her latch correct. The frequent feedings and night wakings and food refusal to me sound like a possiblity of reflux. Some reflux babies nurse/bottle feed frequently in an attempt to soothe the pain. My daughter is eighteen months and continues to have problems with reflux and waking at night from the pain. She never spit up once, but her reflux was severe. I am just putting it out there at a possibility. I also made all of my daughters baby food. She didn't seem to like the jar food. It was very easy to do and allowed me to experiment with different textures and tastes. He is 16months and should be fine with starting table food. Have you tried that or letting him feed himself some finger food?? You can email me if you want with any questions....good luck
Holly

: My son is now 16 months. He was diagnosed
: with a very very mild form of PRS at birth,
: i .e. he escaped a cleft pallet and
: breathing issues. Because of the mildness,
: I feel the doctors have overlooked his case.
: Even though over his life I have complained
: about discomfort breastfeeding(which I have
: worked through because I feel lucky to have
: him breastfeeding at all), difficulty
: getting him to accept solids and very
: frequent night wakings (up to 10 times a
: night).
:
: I can't help but think that these are
: related to the PRS....but I can't find
: anyone to validate my concerns. They keep
: telling me it is behavioural or he is
: breastfeeding too much!
:
: I live in an area where the doctors are not
: very knowledgable about PRS, but
