Hey Rachael,
In my experience as a nursery nurse, there are several reasons why a baby may not be able to get his circumcision at birth. Having assisted in countless circs, it is a pretty simple procedure. In newborns, only local anesthetic is used. I am pretty sure as they get older that they put them under general anesthesia. My nephew had to have his revised when he was two years old. He did awesome...much better than his mom and dad!! It was an outpatient procedure and once the anesthesia wore off he was as good as new and bouncing off the walls!! The biggest risk to him of course is his airway issues related to his prs. I would just make sure that his anesthesia doctor has experience in intubating prs kids/complicated airways...just because he had a jaw distraction doesn't mean that his airway is "normal". He should do fine and I would recommend going ahead and doing it soon if you would like to have it done...much easier than trying to explain it to a preschooler or gradeschool kid! Good luck!!
