My daughter is 13 weeks old. We brought her to the hospital on Thursday because she pulled her NG tube out and after several tries I could not get the tube back in. When we got to the ER they replaced her tube and did an x ray to see if it was in the right spot. It was and they sent us home. About 20 mins later we got a call and was told to bring her back to the ER because she had broken ribs. We brought her right back and were told that she has 6 broken ribs. They did a full body X Ray and several other test. The x ray showed that her wrist was also broke. All the other test were negative. Almost 3 weeks ago Kaitlyn was at the same hospital for surgery to get her distraction devices removed. Her surgery took longer than what we were told it would take and she ended up getting admitted to the hospital although we were told she would be going home the same day. Once she was settled in her room and sleeping my husband and I went to get something to eat. When we came back I picked her up to hold her and she started crying. I put her back in the crib and she was okay. This happened a couple more time and I finally told the RN that when I hold her it seemed to hurt her. They gave her morphine and she did better. We were told that her right wrist has a healing fracture and that was also the same hand that they put the IV in when she had surgery. Her ribs are also healing and we were told that they happened at different times at least a week ago. Now my husband and I are being investigated and neither of our children can be alone with us. We are devastated that this is happening, neither my husband nor I would ever hurt our kids.
I've read online that there is a thing called temporary brittle bone disease where the bones are brittle but the child grows out of the disease when the muscles are stronger. Kaitlyn was born with low muscle tone as well. She is going to have some genetic testing done however it will take several weeks for those results to come back.
Has anyone heard of any bone issues related to PRS? Anyone had a similar situation? I have cried so much over this and tried to prove to everyone that my husband and I have done nothing wrong. No one has else takes care of her other than my husband and I at home and she sees a DR about once a week. We are trying to do our own research to find out the cause of the bones breaking. We don't want anything to be wrong with her but on the same behalf we don't want to be blamed for something that we did not do.
