Sorry that I am just now reading this. We moved in mid-April, and I have been very busy with unpacking, adjusting, and caring for my two active girls. Anyway, this thread caught my eye, as my Fiona, who will be three next month, had a head circumference that was off the charts at birth. The funny thing was, it didn't really look strange on her. She did not and does not have hydrocephaly, just macrocephaly (big head). By the time she turned two, her head was on the curve, and is now at about the 95th percentile, right around where her height is. In our case, it was nothing to be concerned about, but she did have a CAT scan and two EEGs in her early days in the NICU, so we feel comfortable with her big head. Hope this helps.
Oh, on a side note, though, as Fiona learns what her little body can do, she has occasionally misread the gravitational pull of her head and taken a short tumble off the edge of the couch as she laid on her back and tested how far she could dangle upside down. She is a little bit top-heavy, I guess.

: My daughter had a big head too. in fact, we
: called her our Liddle Kiddle. For those of
: you who never heard of these dolls the heads
: were out of proportion to the bodies which
: were quite small. She was in proportion by
: age 5. (She just turned 37 this month) Large
: heads do run in my family and most of her
: cousins had doctors measuring their heads
: too

: My son is also in the 95% for head but only
: 25% for both height and weight. So far none
: of his doctors seem worried about it, since
: both parents have large heads, as well as
: other family memembers. He's already had
: several CT scans done for his jaw
: distraction so I'm sure they would have told
: me if they saw anything to worry about.

: Hi Courtney.
: im so glad someone else has posted about
: head circ. well not really, i hope
: everything is fine, but you know what i
: mean...
: My son is almost 9 mos and is 95th/97th ish
: percentile for head (47 cm) 25th ish for
: weight and height. What is your daughter's
: head circ at?
:
: Geneticists explained their concern to me
: and told me to have a ct scan of his head
: scheduled for him asap. They said this could
: be something known as hydrocephalus-meaning
: excess fluid in certain chambers of the
: brain. and that was that..i planned the ct
: and sat and waited those 2 weeks for the
: scan. I was so worried. i knew nothing about
: it except that most kids with this need
: shunts(which is brain surgery) in their head
: to redirect this fluid. I had no idea what
: his chances were of having it, the risks of
: shunts, the risks of pressure build up on
: the brain, or what else a large hed size
: would mean. I had trouble finding much out
: about it and they told me just to wait and
: see what the scan showed. I'm not telling
: you this to scare you, just giving you the
: info i collected. i hope your daughter is
: scheduled for a scan as well. Also, make
: sure to find out if larger heads run in your
: family, that could be all it is.
:
: Anyway if you'd like to know the outcome in
: our situation, the neurologists just said he
: has more "space" between the brain
: and skull, than most have for his age. but
: we are not in the clear just yet. He will
: have to return every other month to moniter
: this "space" and dr.s' say they
: should have a diagnosis, if any, by the time
: he is 2. I wasnt too happy about this
: explaination, and am still a little
: confused. But i am trying not to worry about
: something that may or may not be and just
: enjoying my son. If you have any questions i
: can try and answer them but this is pretty
: new to me too. You can email me as well.
: Please keep me updated, I'd like to know how
: shes doing and what explainations drs give
: you!!!

: My daughter is 10 months old with PRS. when
: she was born she her weight was not even
: onthe graph that pediatricians have. Now
: her weight has jumped all the way to 50th
: percentile but her head has grown above the
: 95th percentile, and the doctors are
: concerned, what are they concerned about?
: are there any associated conditions
: involving a prominant forehead?
