Thanks for your response Kristy. Unfortunately the swelling has not gone down at all (it's been almost 2 weeks), so the doctors are planning to take her back into the OR. They are considering starting jaw distraction to make more room for the tongue and to help us get rid of the trach. Currently her mouth/jaw/teeth are acting as a tournaquette on her tongue which is hindering it from healing and reducing the swelling. We are a bit overwhelmed, but praying for a good outcome.
