My son was 4 weeks old when he was distracted. His tongue completely blocked his airway when he was on his back. He could only lay on his side or stomach to breathe. The surgery brought his tongue out of his airway immediately. Maybe they want to wait to see how far the jaw comes out first before doing both procedures? The surgery alone only took two hours. My son was intubated for five days after the surgery and he was sedated the whole time. After they took the breathing tube out, he was able to breathe on his back just fine. Before the surgery he was not eating orally at all. It took about 2 months after the surgery for him to learn to eat from the Haberman bottle. If you would like, I can email you some pictures of Henry's surgery.
